Can the Yankees dig themselves out?

Jorge Posada is hitting 0.165 on the season. Alex Rodriguez is hitting 0.252, is 35, and has seven years left on his contract at approximately 24 million a year.  CC Sabathia, as the ace, has a 3.47 era with approximately 92 Million owed, if he does not opt-out  of contract after this year. Derek Jeter is hitting .267 with only 2 homeruns and eleven runs batted in. He is still owed thirty four million over the next two years.  After Jeter leaves, who is their shortstop? Rodriguez, it looks like won't be the starting third baseman for the remaining seven years of his contract.  Who will take over for him? For Posada, there seems to be a promising player in the minors in Jesus Montero, from the Yankees Triple-A team. Who will fill the left side of the infield. In a couple of years, Rodriguez will most likely move to DH. The Yankees have now learned the hard way that you cannot fill every hole by free agency. They will need to start building up the farmsystem and make more homegrown players on their Major League club in New York.

Here is Jesus Montero taking batting practice in Spring Training this year:

Thoughts on Jose Bautista's sudden spike in Homeruns

In case you missed it, Jose Bautista spanked three homeruns against the Twins today in a 11-3 blowout win for the Toronto Blue Jays. First of all, I DO NOT think Bautista used steroids. True, before last season his career high for homeruns in a season was sixteen. However, it is possible that he could have altered his swing with the Toronto hitting coach. Also, Bautista rarely hits opposite field homeruns. That's important in determining whether he used steroids or not, because you would expect someone who used steroids to spank homeruns all over the field. You also have to wonder, how much money did Bautista, only 30, leave on the table when he signed a 64 million dollad contract over the offseason. He could be the spark that this Toronto franchise could need to get out of the cellar of Major League Baseball and become a threat in the loaded American League East.

Why the Heat not winning the Finals would be best-case scenario for NBA

NBA lost quite a bit of popularity nationally when last summer Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade decided to go on the same team, Miami Heat, forming a super team. So every year, fans expect Lakers, Celtics, Mavericks, Bulls, and now Heat to be in hunt for a title. Now after the Conference finals sixty percent of those teams will be eliminated ( could be eighty if the Mavericks are eliminated). If the Grizzlies were to win the finals, it would boost the NBA in popularity, because it would show that even an eighth seed could win the finals, meaning there is a big level of competition where any team could beat any team on any given night. If the Heat win the finals, the NBA would lose popularity big time due to the fact that almost everyone expected the Heat to win the finals after "The Decision" on ESPN. If won  the Mavericks win, that be great for the NBA also because it has been a while since they won the finals, and make the NBA seem like a league where a team cannot win the finals just because of talent, it takes heart and patience. If the Heat win, it might as well be "NBA : Where the Miami Heat happen"

Thoughts on NFL Lockout

The owners want 2 billion, but they already get 1 million. The union wants a equal share in revenue which you can't fault them for. The owners want an eighteen game schedule, and two less preseason games, which I think is absolutely ridiculous, because even though I love football, you have to think on the players, and how much this would affect them, as preseason and regular season just do not have the same intensity level. I have to part with the players on this one, due to the fact that they are the ones playing on the field risking their post-career lives. Also, considering that players in the Major League Baseball have guaranteed contracts, I think the NFL players should have guaranteed contracts because baseball requires less physical abilities than football, and you are much more likely to get a concussion in football than baseball. It may seem the NFL players get too much, but they need so much money to cover up post contract issues such as medical disabilities earned from the playing career. Should Alex Rodriguez get 275 Million guaranteed contract from the Yankees, but someone like Tom Brady will get 80 Million IF he reaches all his incentives.

Thoughts on Mets prospect Fernando Martinez

Not a well known name anymore, Fernando Martinez was once the mets top prospect and considered untouchable. He was signed at 16 and is now 22. There is no question he has talent, but injuries have plagued him every season. He has arthritis in his knees, which does not improve with age. However, he can turn it around as he just got a call-up friday from Triple-A Buffalo to take the roster spot for injured first baseman Ike Davis, and he will serve as the backup corner outfielder for Mets. Yesterday he ripped a DEEP two run pinch hit homerun, so who knows.
